$3.99 Papa Murphy's Deal Today and Tomorrow Only!

Update:  I went to purchase pizzas last night and was pleasantly surprized that our store allowed substitutions for only $1!  So I got a white sauce large with chicken for only $4.99!  Ask at your store if you want something besides pepperoni!

It's Customer Appreciation Days at Papa Murphy's!  Today and tomorrow you can pick up a large pepperoni pizza for $3.99!  There's no coupon required and a limit of three pizzas, but what an inexpensive dinner!  I've also heard that these freeze really well too!  Just ask them to "double wrap" your pizza for freezing.  I personally think that Papa Murphy's has some of the best pizza around, so I'll be stocking up!

Use Your Head (Not Just Coupons) to Save Money!

So today I decided that I needed to grab some lunch on the go for my daughter and I.  We had been to several Smith's stores to use our final "round up" coupons, and we were hungry.  So we stopped by In-n-Out for a burger.  As I sat there looking at the order board, I considered how to spend the least amount.  Then I had an epiphany!!!  I didn't want a soda, but there were the combos, just calling out, "buy me!  I'm simple--just use the number!"  But I took an extra moment and thought about how to save money.  Again, I didn't want a soda, and my two year-old daughter  wasn't going to eat much, so I tried something different.  I ordered a la carte.  One cheeseburger, one hamburger and an order of fries.  The grand total?  $5.55.  What if I had done the "easy" thing and ordered the combo plus an extra burger?  Well, the price would have been closer to $7.00.  So lesson learned:  use your head when making a purchase.  Just because things are "packaged" a certain way doesn't mean that is the least expensive option.  If we just pay a little more attention, we can save lots of money without much effort.  (Of course, I would have saved all that money if we just had lunch at home, but the convenience today was worth every penny!!!)

A Few Freebies

I've done a dismal job of posting this weekend, but I'm going to work on doing better.  For now, here are a few freebies I've come across after reviewing the coupon inserts that came today.  (If you don't get the paper, watch for an amazing deal soon!  And meanwhile, call a few stores to see if they have any left from today that they'll hold for you!!!)

The P&G insert has coupons for Colgate toothbrushes and toothpaste that can be rounded up at Smith's through Tuesday for free items!

Also, the Smart Source insert has a Gain coupon that can be paired with the Rite Aid sale price of $.89 (or price matched at Target or Walmart) to make for free dish soap too!  (Thanks, Utah Deal Diva!)

Don't forget about the Bounty coupon in the P&G insert too--use it at the round up sale at Smith's on the Bounty Basics single roll for $.09 paper towels!

And both the Ivory and Zest coupons in the P&G insert are bound to make for cheap-to-free soap during the round up event!

So what do we learn from this?  The newspaper contains a goldmine of coupons!!!  Can you imagine if you had four copies of the coupons in today's paper???  You could stock up on toothbrushes, toothpaste, paper towels, soap, dish soap--all for pretty much free!  Wow!  Again, I hope to be posting a great newspaper deal in the next few days, so watch for it!  And meanwhile--get those coupons clipped so you can save big!

And a Quick Giveaway!

I had a couple of great readers give me a few beer rebates that expire at the end of this month, and I want to give them out!  (Remember that in many states, including Utah, no beer purchase is required to use these rebates!!!)  Just leave a comment on this post with which type you prefer to enter.  I have quite a few beef, seafood, poultry, and pork rebates that are for August, but you have until mid-September to submit them.  I'll be sure to email you to let you know what  you need to purchase by Aug. 30 or 31st to qualify for the rebate, then you can send it in when you receive it.  Easy peasy!  Just keep your receipt, and you'll be good to go with the rebate form.

This contest ends Monday at noon so I can get them out to you!  Get entered now!

More Deals Coming Soon!

I've had a crazy few days between my nephew's wedding, preparing for two surgeries for two of my children and interviewing new helpers to work with my daughter with special needs, I haven't been around a computer much since Thursday.  I promise I haven't forgotten about you guys and am excited to post some great deals soon.  I'm going to sit down tonight and get caught up on everything after the wedding reception, so watch for some smokin' deals then, and have a fun Saturday!  (And be sure to take some low-value coupons to Smith's to see what deals you can score with the coupon round-up!)

Super Simple Savings at Smith's!

How about an 85% savings???!!!  That's the kind of receipt that awaits you this week at Smith's (if you pay a little attention to what you buy).  I went in today with my low-value coupons in-hand and was excited to find many of the things I wanted.  Keep in mind that all of these deals (except the Hefty bags and toothbrushes) were made possible by coupons from my newspaper subscriptions.  However, the savings that I got just from this purchase would pay for TWO FULL SUBSCRIPTIONS for one year!!!  That's right--I saved almost $40!  My grand total was just over $8!  So pull out those low-value coupons and get to Smith's!  Let us know what you find--send pics--I'd love to post your deals!

Best Grocery Deals This Week

This post contains pricing for some of the best grocery deals this week in the Salt Lake Valley. Many of these items are things you may purchase each week. Often, items like produce, meat and dairy goods do not have coupons, so I've listed some of the best deals to help cut your grocery bill even without coupons. You can use this list in one of two ways--either go to each store individually for the discounts or print the list to use for price-matching at Walmart or Target (Super Target has a larger selection of grocery items).

Keep in mind that it is always smart to bring your ads with you, just in case. Also, I try to keep my price-matching purchases together either at the front or back of my order. That makes it easier to go over pricing with the cashier and also speeds up the process to not hold up other customers waiting to be served.

Some Cardinal Rules of Couponing that We Should NEVER Break!

So I went on a quick run to the grocery store on Saturday, hoping to take advantage of a few great bargains and printable coupons (Smith's Hefty One Zip bags for $.50 after printable coupon).  When I finished up and got into the car to return home, I was so frustrated!!!  I had gone to two different stores that day to stock up on storage bags, and both stores were completely out of what I wanted!  So as I drove home Saturday evening, I started thinking about couponing and how I had let the process control me.  Ever happened to you?  I hope not, but if it has, I thought I'd take a few minutes to post about two very important couponing rules that I broke that day.  Breaking couponing rules just leads to frustration and the feeling that we spend way too much time and effort to save some money.  Let's all commit to avoid coupon burn-out by sticking to the rules!

Rule #1:  Don't waste your time!
Sounds simple enough, right?  Well, we all have to shop for the items we need, so we can't really avoid that part of it.  However, we can avoid wasting our valuable time by chasing deals all over the place!  Instead of trying to track down the item I wanted to get, I could have done several simple things that would have saved me from wasting my time, getting a big headache and still walking away without what I needed (or wanted!) to buy.  First, I could have simply picked up the phone.  It's amazing to me that in this instance, the thought never crossed my mind to simply call the store first.  Especially when making a special trip for something, we should always pick up the phone before we pick up the keys.  The customer service department can tell you if they have the item you're looking for, how many they have, what the price is--sometimes they'll even put the item on hold for you.  Just ask!
Secondly, I could have price matched.  I know this can be a controversial topic because there seem to be two schools of thought when it comes to price matching.  One says that it is a great option, and the other says that we should support the stores with the lower pricing directly to reward them for offering the best deal for the consumer.  I agree with both.  I often shop different stores, but I also appreciate the opportunity to match prices at one place, especially when I'm in a hurry.  In my example above, I could have just matched the store price while shopping for other items, and I would have saved myself an unnecessary, disappointing trip.  Just an option to consider...

Rule #2:  Don't Settle for "Sold Out"!
What do we do when instead of finding the item we're looking for, we're greeted by an empty shelf?  Before I became more acquainted with the options for saving money, I just assumed that if there wasn't any on the shelf, I had to wait until the item became available again.  Sometimes, that is our only option.  But often we  have a few additional options.  We can just walk away and hope to get the deal another day, we can ask if the store has more if the item in stock or we can often request a raincheck.  I know there have been plenty of times when I have settled for "sold out."  We really don't have to do that.  Taking a moment or two to track down a store employee can really pay off big.  Ask if they have any more of the item or when it will be back in stock.  Then use one of the best savings tricks of all--ask for a raincheck!  A raincheck is basically a certificate that entitles you to purchase the item at the sale price even after the sale is over.  Most customer service desks, cashiers or self-check personnel can help you with a raincheck.  Most rainchecks have a time limit (often 30 days) but they can be used with coupons, so you can often still get the sale item when no one else is particularly interested it in.  Get in the habit of asking for rainchecks.  They are a great tool for saving money!  And ask around at your favorite stores about rainchecks.  I had no idea that stores like Kohl's even offer rainchecks!  (Keep it a secret, but I was able to get rainchecks last year for their Black Friday items!  That saved me a TON of money!)  So you never know when a raincheck might allow you to get what you need (want) without all the hassle!

I'm sad to say that on my shopping trips on Saturday I broke both of these important rules.  Thank goodness for an attentive cashier who offered me a raincheck when I didn't think to ask, so all was not lost.  However, I still went home frustrated and disappointed for wasting so much time without getting the deal.  Avoid that craziness in your life by deciding right now to keep these two couponing rules.  You'll be glad you did!

Deals at West Jordan Macey's!

Just got back from the Macey's on 7800 S. just east of Bangerter and loved the great deal they have going!  My SIL mentioned it earlier in the week, but I guess I really didn't "get" it.  So I went today to take advantage of the new meat coupon in the savings booklet I talked about here.  I bought boneless, skinless chicken breast which is at an ok price at $1.88/lb., but the coupon takes $3 off your super saver package, so I basically got the chicken for well under $1/lb.!  To top it off, at checkout, the cashier informed me that because I bought "grilling meat", I got to choose two Coca Cola 2-liters (I chose Sprite) and a full-size box of Cheez-Its crackers for free!!!  So for about $4 I got over four pounds of chicken, two 2-liters and crackers!  Head over there for this great deal!

Need Your Input!

As this blog is progressing, I want to make sure that it is a valuable resource for idea sharing and saving money.  There are many money-saving blogs on the web, and I really want to try to shy away from just re-posting deals that everyone else already has listed.  Sometimes that will happen, but I'd love to provide content that is interesting and helpful for readers from all backgrounds.  Do you have a suggestion of something that you would like to see here?  Do you need information on the basics of couponing?  Are you interested in more deals that don't require coupons?  Would you like to see more day-to-day info on how to incorporate couponing into a busy lifestyle?  I would love to hear your thoughts.  I'm learning that running a blog is a big job, and getting comments from readers makes it way more fun!  So take a moment to share your thoughts!  Let me know how we can make "So Simple to Save" a place where you find value and assistance in your efforts to save money.  I'm sure I can put together some fun coupon and rebate giveaways for those who participate!

Best Grocery Deals of the Week

This post contains pricing for some of the best grocery deals this week in the Salt Lake Valley. Many of these items are things you may purchase each week. Often, items like produce, meat and dairy goods do not have coupons, so I've listed some of the best deals to help cut your grocery bill even without coupons. 2-For-1 at Lagoon This Week!

Saw this advertised on TV the other day, but I'm still getting into "blogger" mode and need to remember to post great deals like this!  So thanks to my new friends at Savvy Sister Shops and Coupons 4 Utah for the reminder!  Head over to Lagoon this week and let them know that KUTV sent you, and you'll get two passes for the price of one!  This offer is good through Friday, so I hope some of you can take advantage of it!

Be on the Look Out for New Savings Booklets!

I've recently found these two savings booklets while shopping at Smith's and Fresh Market.  Be on the look out for great offers like these.  When you see a display in the store (it doesn't matter for what!!!), be sure to get a little closer and check it out.  You never know what you might find!

Lots of Great Discounts Out This Morning!

I'm headed out the door in a bit with a pretty busy morning, but I wanted to get you informed quick on a few great deals available right now.  Take a look around and see what you find!

First, CityDeals is having a HUGE sale, and today is the last day!  Discounts up to 90% off, plus free shipping automatically on all orders.  This is a great time to get some fantastic deals to use later!  Watch expiration dates, but think forward to when you'll be eating out, taking a stay-cation, visiting local venues--a little planning now will save you a ton of money then.  Scroll through all the deals!   You might be very surprised at what you'll find!  I'll be snagging the Ellerbeck Mansion certificate good for $75 toward a night for only $18.75!  Somehow I'm going to get away for one night with my husband!  I'm sure I'll find more great options once I look around!  You will too!
City Deals Salt Lake County Clearance
City Deals Utah County Clearance
City Deals Davis/Cache/Weber County Clearance

Second, Groupon.com has two great deals today!  One for Utahns, and one for everyone!  Check out the Fat Cats bowling special (a $106 value) which includes two hours of bowling for up to six people, shoe rental for everyone, food and drinks for only $25!  Great Deal!

Another phenomenal offer is for $100 toward photo books from Picaboo for only $25!  You can find this offer by clicking on "Visit other Cities" at the top of the page and choosing Oklahoma City.  Because this is an online offer, anyone can use it! The best part– the value of this Groupon CAN be used toward tax and shipping AND be combined with other offers.  That should apply to the FREE 8.5 x 11 Hardcover Photo Book ($39.95 value) to new customers thru August! All you have to pay is $8.99 for shipping. To get started, go to Picaboo.com, enter your email address and then you’ll be able to start creating your book.   Make sure to use coupon code FREEBK to get your book for only the cost of shipping.  Then you should also be able to use your Groupon certificate to finish off the deal!  Order an extra copy for grandparents!  I've also made these books for our anniversary and they are beautiful! (Thanks Faithful Provisions and Hip 2 Save)
There are more great deals available today, and I'll get them posted in a bit!  Let us know what deals you score by adding a comment!

What Can You Get for $24?

What can you get for $24?  How about a shopping cart FULL of groceries?  This cart included eight boxes of cereal, almost ten pounds of beef (london broil and rump roast), cheese, milk, four packages of Oreos, five boxes of granola bars and a ton more!  If you haven't taken the time this week to check out the great sale at Smith's, make sure to do that.  It sounds like the sale will extend for another week, and there are several great websites that can help you make a shopping list and match up coupons.  Check them out:

Shoot over any questions you have, and I'll be happy to get right back to you.  Saving so much can be overwhelming at the beginning, but we can work on small steps together!  Let us all know about your great shopping trips for the week--we'd love to celebrate together!

Do You Have Seafood Receipts from July?

If you have any saved receipts from May 1-July 31st, I just found some expired rebates while shopping.  I'd be happy to share with you!  These beer rebates are from Michelob Ultra and are good for $6 off the purchase of $10 or more of fresh or frozen seafood.  Remember that no other purchase is required in many states (including Utah) so if you have any saved grocery receipts, you can submit this rebate.  It has to be postmarked by Saturday, August 14th, so you'll need to stop by and grab it if you're local.  Just send me a quick email or leave a comment, and we'll connect!

Last Day for $50 in FREE Decor Products!

Today's the last day for our Swag Bucks contest shared here.  We only have SEVEN entries so far, so a great chance to win!  Just get your new Swag Bucks account started, and you'll be eligible to win!  Remember, these are new Swag Bucks accounts started through my links that are eligible.  Can't wait to announce the winner tomorrow morning!

Tons of Great Target Coupons!

Do you shop at Target?  If so, you might know that Target is one of the few stores in our area that has their own store coupons that can be paired with manufacturer coupons.  From time to time, they also release great store coupons for their own label products like Market Pantry, Merona and Circo.  Right now is a great time to print off some handy Target coupons!  One of my favorites is sure to get you a cheap bakery item--maybe even free!  You can also print off some great store coupons that match up with manufacturer coupons currently available like Dora Bandaid boxes and Juicy Juice products.  Check out the coupons for furniture items, clothing and more!  Just go to Target.com and click on the coupon link at the bottom of the page.  You can print most coupons twice per computer using the "back" button.  Let us know what great deals you score!

Huge City Deals Clearance Today!

City Deals is doing it again!  Yesterday they announced their "Semi-Annual Clearance" and this morning, they added over 100 new items to the sale!  Be sure to check it out quick while inventory is at its best!  We buy gift certificates from City Deals all the time and save tons of money on eating out and entertainment.  When we want to go out, we just open up our City Deals envelope to see what certificates we have.  Then we go have fun!  Find a few today to help you save a ton over the next few weeks!  They also make great gifts!

Check out the Utah deals here!
Check out the Arizona deals here!
Check out the Nevada deals here!

Oh, and one more thing!  The customer service at City Deals is amazing!  I received an order this week from the Mrs. Field's promotion last week.  I was expecting a $25 certificate to Mrs. Fields for having spent $25 on other certificates.  Well, I was pretty surprised when I opened my envelope and found a $50 certificate instead!  There was a note explaining that they had run out of the $25 certificates, so they just sent me $50 instead!  WOW!  How many companies do you know of that would do that?  So buy with confidence--you'll be glad you did!

Nobody Wants $50+ in Free Home Decor???!!!

So it's MEGA SWAG BUCKS DAY! Each Friday brings the chance to earn lots of extra Swag Bucks! No matter where you live, you can earn free stuff even faster on Fridays!

Last Friday I announced a mini contest that you could enter just by signing up for Swag Bucks here.  I'm guessing that not giving you a pic of what you could win didn't make it very enticiting because I've only had a few people take advantage of the offer!  So I'm posting a pic this time of the $50 in BEAUTIFUL home decor items you can win for yourself or use as gifts!  This collection includes a great wood, tin and elevated lettering "Friendship" sign, one chocolate and sage chunky candle holder, a pillow, cute striped tablerunner and a cool chocolate-colored wrought iron and glass lantern.  This contest is being extended for a few more days, and I think I'll pick a winner on Tuesday.  If we have more than ten sign-ups, I'll pick TWO winners!  How's that???!!!

So why should you want Swag Bucks? That's easy! Swag Bucks are like online cash that you earn just for making your internet searches either through the Swag Bucks tool bar or through the search box on the Swag Bucks website. Those reward bucks can be redeemed for all kinds of prizes. I've mentioned before that my favorite is the Amazon.com e-card that you can use for online purchases. Those will add up to big savings at Christmas when I share all the Amazon deals with you!

So what are you waiting for? Just get started by starting your FREE account here (with 30 free Swag Bucks to start)! As an added bonus, I'm going to give someone a great home decor gift pack valued at over $50! You'll earn one entry for getting signed up with Swag Bucks through the links in this post. If you've already joined through my referral link, don't worry! You're entered! Swag Bucks keeps track of everyone who sets up their account, so your entry will be applied automatically!
A few details:
*You can have a Swag Bucks account for each email if you want. When you refer someone who joins, you earn one point for each point they earn! So sign yourself up, then get a spouse, adult child, friend or family member signed up with your referral link. You'll double your amount of Swag Bucks!
*Swag Buck redemption is a piece of cake! You can browse rewards on the site and choose what you want!
*Just by doing your regular searches, you'll earn an average of 30-50 Swag Bucks per day, and that adds up fast!
*Email me any questions or post them in the comments, and I'll get right back to you!
