Best Grocery Deals This Week!

Here are some of the best grocery deals for the week.  Many of these items are things you may purchase each week. Often, items like produce, meat and dairy goods do not have coupons, so I've listed some of the best deals to help cut your grocery bill even without coupons. You can use this list in one of two ways--either go to each store individually for the discounts or print the list to use for price-matching at Walmart or Target (Super Target has a larger selection of grocery items).

Keep in mind that it is always smart to bring your ads with you, just in case. Also, I try to keep my price-matching purchases together either at the front or back of my order. That makes it easier to go over pricing with the cashier and also speeds up the process to not hold up other customers waiting to be served.

Also, don't forget that stores have different ad dates. Though I try to get this list posted each Tuesday evening, not all of the ads start on Wednesday. Here is a list of ad dates for major grocery retailers in the area:

New Contest with TEN Winners! Great New Utah Discount Card!

I'm so excited to share our newest contest with you!  There will be ten winners of a great new Utah discount card!  I'm hammering out all the details now, so watch for an announcement later tonight or early tomorrow!

Smith's Coupon Round-Up Q & A

I got an email from a friend today asking about the Smith's coupon round-up, so I thought I'd take the time to give you all some more details on the sale.

Q-Is this sale really worth my time?  Won't everything be sold out if I get there any later than 6:30am?
A-Yes, it is soooo worth your time!  However, this shopping trip will likey be different from others you have at Smith's on a regular basis.  The best way to have a successful experience is to be prepared with a list (and coupons) of all the items you'd like to get, understanding that some might not be available.  If you end up with 20 items for free or 10, they're still free (or almost free), right?  Also, keep in mind that many stores restock each night.  So your best chance of getting everything you want is in the morning.  If there's something in particular you're looking to stock up on, call the store first to verify stock!

Q-Is there one location that you recommend?
A-Yes!!!  Again, your best chance of getting what you want is to go to the bigger stores.  They don't sell out as quickly, and if they do, they usually have more in the back.  So I recommend the Marketplace stores.  They have more room for more product.  I've also had lots more success getting what I want at the Smith's on 90th South, west of Bangerter.

Q-The shelf is empty!  I'm so mad!  What do I do now?
A-If the shelf is empty, that doesn't necessarily mean the store has none of that product.  Take the time to find an associate and ask.  You might be REALLY GLAD you did!  Plus you'll alert them to the issue so they can restock the shelves for other shoppers.

Q-What if the right amount isn't discounted for my coupons?
A-Fix it right away!  You can either alert the cashier right then, or you can go right to the customer service desk.  I've had great experience with Smith's when it comes to correcting coupon issues.  I bet you will too.  To avoid problems like this, you may want to hand coupons over one at a time or at least make sure to separate multiples of the same coupon so that they are less likely to stick together.

Do you have more questions about the sale?  Shoot them over to me at sosimpletosave@hotmail.com, and I'll try to get the answers posted before the sale starts tomorrow.

New Kellogg's Rebate Available at Harmon's!

There's a new rebate in town!  You may have seen it advertised in the Harmon's ad that came in the mail yesterday.  However, the dates on the ad rebate were incorrect, so I hurried over to Harmon's to get the low-down!  This rebate is good for $10 back on any qualifiying combination of ten Kellogg's, Keebler and/or Sunshine products.  That makes the final price at Harmon's 10 for $13.  That's not too shabby, especially if you don't have access to coupons or have a stash of products already.  However, if you apply the So Simple to Save scenario listed below, you'll come out with a really great deal!

Here are the newspaper-based coupons available for this sale:
Keebler Town House Crackers, any $1/2 (8-1-10) RP-6/6
Keebler Town House Flatbread Crisps Crackers, any flavor 9.5 oz. .75/1 (9-5-10) RP-7/11
Kelloggs Cereals, any flavor 10 oz. or larger $1.25/3 (8-8-10) RP-6/27
Kelloggs Cinnabon Cereal, any flavor 10 oz. or larger $1/1 (8-8-10) RP-6/27
Kelloggs Frosted Mini Wheats Cereals, any flavor 14.5 oz. or larger $1/2 (8-22-10) RP-7/11
Kelloggs Nutri Grain Cereal Bars, any flavor 6 ct. or larger .75/1 (9-5-10) RP-7/11
Kelloggs Pop Tarts toaster pastries, any flavor 8 ct. or larger $1/2 (9-5-10) RP-7/11
Kelloggs Pop-Tarts toaster pastries, any flavor 8 ct. or larger $1/2 (8-8-10) RP-6/13
Kelloggs Raisin Bran Crunch, Raisin Bran Extra or Raisin Bran cereals, any 14 oz. or larger $1/2 (9-5-10) RP-7/25

More printable coupons at these websites:
http://www.kelloggs.com/
http://www.snackpicks.com/

So Simple to Save Scenario:
(2) Kellogg's Fiber Plus Bars (Use $1/1 coupons from www.snackpicks.com)
(5) Kellogg's Cereals on the Harmon's sale list (Use Kelloggs Cereals, any flavor 10 oz. or larger $1.25/3 (8-8-10) RP-6/27 + $1/2 Kellogg's Cereals at www.snackpicks.com)
(3) Kellogg's Cinnabon Cereal (Use $1/1 coupons from www.kelloggs.com)

$23.00 before coupons
-$7.25 in coupons
$15.75 total at register
-$10.00 Kellogg's Rebate by mail
***$5.75 Grand total for TEN ITEMS!!!

A few things to keep in mind:
1.  This rebate has a space to list where you purchased your items, so I'm guessing it doesn't have to be Harmon's.
2.  Purchases must be dated between 7/26-8/8 and must all be on the SAME receipt.
3.  Rebate must be postmarked by 9/15.
4.  One rebate per household.
5.  Even though the rebate is good for many Kellogg's, Keebler and Sunshine products, pay attention to size requirements and remember that not all items are part of the Harmon's sale.  If you buy items that are not part of the sale, they may still qualify for the rebate, but you will spend more money.

Get Your Car Cleaned for FREE!

Is your car dirty?  Mine has been filthy for a few months, it seems!  We always have it on the list of things to do each weekend, but there's never enough time.  Well, if you are out and about anywhere near 10400 S. and Bangerter before August 1st, you'll be in luck!  There's a brand new car wash called Star Wash there that is holding an awesome grand opening special!  Right now, you can take your vehicle (or vehicles) as many times as you want before August 1st for a FREE WASH!  We went today, and it was great!  The facility is totally state-of-the-art!  The car wash is a drive-thru, but you put the car in neutral and are pulled through on a track.  It takes three minutes.  The wash and tire shine normally cost nearly $12.00, but you get it for free right now!  My minivan came out cleaner than it ever does at drive-thru places!  And one more thing--all their self-serve vacuums are also free for the grand opening!  So what are you waiting for?  Go get that car clean and spread the word!

A Few Freebies Worth Your Time

If you spend any amount of time checking out online deal blogs, you probably know that some are full of offers for free items, trial samples, and all kinds of goodies (and not-so-good goodies!!).  If you're like me, you probably look at most and have no desire to add your name and contact info to another list.  My sister-in-law and I were talking about this today, and I decided that it was time that I tell you about two offers that really are worth your time and effort.  I only recommend them because I am an enrollee in both, and by the way, I don't receive any commission or referral credit for sharing these with you.  I've just come to enjoy the benefits of both very much, and I think you just might too!

The first great freebie site is Kraft First Taste.  I've been a member of their site for about six months now, and I've received well over $100 in freebies from them.  Now, I'm not talking about useless dryer ball samples, toe fungus gel, or anything like that!  Kraft First Taste sends awesome stuff!  And they don't really even send "stuff".  They send COUPONS!  And so far, almost every coupon I've received from them has been for FREE PRODUCTS!  (All from Kraft, of course!)  I've gotten Oscar Mayer Turkey bacon, Kraft cheese, Kool Aid products, DiGiorno pizza and more for FREE!  You'll love what you get from them--products your family can actually use.  After you try the products, they just ask that you log onto their site to complete a brief survey of your thoughts.  It's simple and so worth the tiny effort for such great free coupons.  Check it out here.  The one trick to keep in mind with Kraft First Taste is that you need to check the website every month or two for new offers.  (I'll give you a heads up here when I notice new offers too!) Any offers available for you will be listed under "My Offers" after you log in.  You select that you want the offers available, and they mail them out to you!  (Once in awhile there are printable offers too.)  That's it!  Give it a try!

The second place for great freebies is Vocal Point.  I've been signed up with Vocal Point for about a year, and their promotions come automatically by mail as they are available.  The great thing about Vocal Point is that they send you a sample of the item (all Proctor & Gamble products) along with great coupons.  There is usually one very high value coupon for you and three or four other great coupons to share with friends and family.  I've been able to get Puff's tissues for almost free, Pantene hair care products, Crystal Light, feminine hygiene products and more.  Their offers always come in neat little packages and are more like gifts than propaganda!  So go here to check them out.  They have lots of forums and areas to check out, but I normally just use Vocal Point for the great offers.

So those are two resources that you may not have considered to get more great deals.  Check them out, and let me know what you think!

Smith's is the Place Tomorrow!

If you want to get some great deals this week, Smith's should be on your short list of stores!  I'm going to work on more details tomorrow (I have to get to bed!!!), but I wanted to give you fellow night owls (and early birds) a heads up.  Thanks to another great Utah-based savings blog, I found a very helpful list of sale items that include links for printables.  That means even if you just started couponing today, you can still take advantage of the great sale!  Check out the list here, and a HUGE THANKS to Joani at Coupons4Utah

And just to get you all worked up (when you need to go to bed too), how about starting off with Kraft 12 oz. Singles (16 pack, I think) for only $.29???  Yep, you read that right!  Now is a great time to stock up!  It freezes great if you let it thaw in the fridge before using.  Here's how you get the deal:
1.  Check out the area around the cheese and lunchmeat at your Smith's.  I've seen $1/2 coupons for Kraft singles all over that area at several different Smith's.  Grab a couple (at least two for this deal).
2.  Get FIVE packages of cheese (priced at $1.79 each).  The coupon makes them $1.29 each.
3.  Receive your catalina coupon good for $5 off your next store purchase at checkout!  That means you spend $6.45 and get back $5!

***Grand total:  $1.45 for FIVE packages of Kraft Singles!
Cheese slices are not something I can stomach in generic, so I'm so glad to get the good stuff for almost free!

So I hope this deal will tide you over until tomorrow!  I almost have the "Best Deals This Week" list done, and we'll have a separate Smith's Mega Event list too!
Buenas Nachos! (That's how I like to say good night!)

Free Mentos Gum at Smith's!

If you got the Sunday newspaper yesterday, get out those Mentos coupons!  If you didn't get the paper, see if you can round some up!  You can even buy coupons--my favorite vendor is My Coupon Hunter.  You can buy them for around $.12 each.  The coupons were for $1 off two bottles of gum.  Well, great news!  If you get your hands on some of those coupons (and there were two in each paper for a total of four gum bottles), you can get free gum this week at Smith's (and next week too, supposedly)!  The Mentos 12-piece bottles are part of the Mega Sale, and when you buy 10, they are only $.50 each.  Use your $1/2 coupons, and they are FREE!  I went to the Smith's on 90th just west of Bangerter today, and they had tons!

Happy shopping!

Great Toy Clearance at Kmart.com!

Just wanted to alert you to a pretty great toy clearance at Kmart.com.  I just found it today, so some of the great toys have sold out, but there are still many to choose from.  One of my favorites is the "Precious Places Swan Castle" pictured above.  We have had this for almost a year and both of my young daughters (5 & 2) play with it all the time.  It is very sturdy and comes with lots of things to entertain them.  Regular price $47.99, on clearance for only $18!  Check out all the deals under the "clearance" section in Toys!  Be sure and add the items you want to your cart for final pricing.  Some of the higher-priced items are coming up an additional 50% off in the cart!

Do You Use Grocery Smarts?

One of the most helpful tools I've discovered over the past 18 months of couponing is the Grocery Smarts website.  Have you heard of it?  Chances are, if you are already an avid money-saver, you use Grocery Smarts lists on a regular basis to plan your shopping trips.  If you're new to all this coupon stuff, then you may not be as familiar.  Either way, you can use Grocery Smarts free of charge to make your shopping trips as economical as possible.  Let me use my plan for the week to show you how it works:

1.  Decide on a store to check out.  This week the winner is definitely Smith's!  So we can view the Smith's grocery list this week here
2.  Once you're on the list, notice the buttons near the top right side.  Click on "Start".  This will cause the whole page to become gray.
3.  Now click on the star above "Stock Up Star" in the left column.  This will highlight all of the 4 and 5-star offers for the week.  These are the ones you really want to pay attention to, as they are the best deals.
4.  Scroll through the list and remove any items you don't want on your list by clicking on them to turn them gray again.
5.  Once you've completed step four, go back up to the top and click on "Shrink" beside the "Start" button.  This will shrink your list to just include the items you wanted.
6.  Choose "Print" to make a tangible copy of your list.

Once I have my list printed, I'm ready to review my shopping strategy.  Make sure to keep your computer-based list on the screen while you decide if there are any online printable coupons you need to get.  You'll notice that all available coupons are listed right next to the sale item, including links for online coupons.  Review the list again, and print off any printable coupons that you don't have.  Other available coupons from newspaper inserts and other sources may be listed as well, and you can choose the ones you have to pair with the sale.

With list and coupons, you're ready to go shopping!  I jot notes on my list and work up several scenarios just in case something is out of stock.

Choose several of the best deals to stock up on.  This will save you a lot of money over the long term.  Each week I try to add a few stockpile items.  Thanks to this strategy, we now have laundry soap, toothbrushes, paste, tp, tissues, dish soap and many other items stored to last us for six months or more.  That means I don't have to buy them at full price because we ran out!  Give it a try--I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at the savings!

Any questions about Grocery Smarts?  Just ask!

What's The Big Deal With "Couponing" Anyway?

So this morning included a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a few things we needed.  While I was there, I decided to give you guys a little sampling of why learning about and using coupons can be so fun.  If we use the regular shelf price for the items above, I would have paid over $21 plus tax (the crayons were only $.25 each--so go grab some of those!!!).  Here's the breakdown:
(3) Crystal Light boxes @ $1.97 Each
(2) Kool-Aid Fun Fizz @ $1.97 Each
(2) Oscar Mayer Selects Angus Hot Dogs @ $3.00 Each

(6) Crayola 24-pack Crayons @ $.25 Each

I pulled out my trusty coupon binder (we'll talk about that later) and used all coupons that either came in the mail from specific companies or peelies from the product at the store.  And here's what happened:

Yep!  You read that right, $.06!  By taking advantage of just a few of the many offers available to help us save money, I was able to get all that for pretty much free!  Here are the places I got the coupons from (all pretty much for free product and then some) along with links to their sites.  I'll be giving you more details on these offers in coming days.

Giveaway Extended! There's Still Time to Win!

So we've gotten off to a great start this week (well, over the past three days...), and I think I was a little over-zealous to put the deadline of tonight for our first contest.  So let's extend it a few days.  Remember, you get one entry for following my blog then one more for each person you refer who becomes a follower.  The new deadline will be Monday, July 12th at 8pm!  Good luck!

And watch for more excitement over the next few days!
